Widening Excellence and Mentoring in Cybersecurity is a Horizon Europe project addressing the underrepresentation of women in cybersecurity. By connecting academia and industry across Europe, the project supports career development, knowledge exchange, and capacity building through secondments, mentoring, and targeted training activities. WEM Cyber aims to to boost women’s participation while contributing to a more resilient European cybersecurity ecosystem.

Cybersecurity demand continues to grow across Europe, yet talent shortages remain significant.
This data highlights a persistent gender gap in a strategically critical sector. This imbalance not only reflects inequality but also limits diversity of perspectives, innovation potential, and the overall resilience of cybersecurity solutions.
These challenges are particularly visible in Widening countries, where access to structured career development in cybersecurity can be more limited.
WEM Cyber addresses these challenges through a structured programme combining mobility, mentoring, and skills development. The project connects universities, research centres, and industry partners to support knowledge circulation and professional growth.
